Meet our Teachers & Staff

Jessie Wu

My name is Jessie Wu, Director of Berkeley Academy. I graduated from Michigan State University with Masters degree in Communication. I have been in banking industry and a small business owner for my entire career. I started working for Berkeley Academy four years ago as the manager of the site. My two grown up children are the original Berkley Academy students more than ten years ago.

Allison Chen

Allison Chen is an after school instructor and Hands-On Science facilitator who primarily works with the lovely second graders at Berkeley Academy. Allie believes in fostering independence in children by constructing an environment for open dialogue, providing support when needed, and treating them with respect. She knows that the children of our community are our future leaders, writers, artists, and scientists. She has previously worked in a variety of institutions, ranging from a developmental biology research lab at a top-tier cancer center to interning at a contemporary art gallery. Allie holds a bachelor's of arts degree from New York University with honors. She developed a unique concentration in Scientific Communication & the Visual and has a  minor in Molecular and Cell Biology.

Edward Njoo

Edward holds a bachelor's of science degree in Biochemistry from Loyola Marymount University with certification from the American Chemical Society. Edward has several years of experience teaching science at the elementary school, junior high, and high school levels, and currently serves as an assistant cross country coach at Mission San Jose High. He is passionate about science education and making STEM education engaging, relevant, and accessible to all students. As a chemist and a teacher, he finds great fulfillment in teaching kids to think like scientists and aspire to be tomorrow's innovators, engineers, and scientists.

Sara Mithra

facilitates writing workshops at Berkeley Academy that grow and radically transforms children from a small group of bored and reluctant writers into a raucous and engaged team of eager writers. Sara graduated with highest honors in American Literature (minor in Mathematics) from UC Santa Cruz and a Masters of Art from UC Berkeley. She pursued further coursework in Environmental Education at Merritt College and Curriculum Development at Ohlone College. 

Lakshmi Pabisetty

graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry and molecular biology and a human physiology minor. As a mentor and role model for kids, She wants to help them grow to become confident and capable adults and inspire a life-long love of learning. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, cooking, listening to music, and spending time with friends and family. makes it interesting? Sunny Yuan

currently teaches Gr K/G1 at Berkeley Academy. Her experience and credential includes Early Childhood Education certificate from Ohlone College, U.C Berkeley Certificate in Teaching Chinese as a Heritage or Foreign Language, State of California Commission Teacher credential. Sunny is also an active instructor at CACC Chinese School, Yellow River Chinese School and East Chinese School.

Zara Bukhari

teaches the 2nd graders at Berkeley Academy. She has a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from San Francisco State University and is further pursuing her master’s degree from San Jose State University. Her goal is to continue helping children grow academically and emotionally at Berkeley.

Lindsay Shen

is the 3rd grade, Math Infinity, GATE Prep and Science instructor. She is eager to work with young and eager minds. As a mother of two, Lindsay Shen has quite an experience in fostering creative learning environments for kids to grow and explore. Prior to her educational work, Lindsay was a software engineer.

Avery Smith

Avery Smith is incredibly excited to be working at Berkeley Academy. She currently a senior at Mission San Jose High School, and next year she plans to pursue undergraduate degrees in Biology and Neuroscience. Later, she also hopes to attend medical school. Aside from academics, Avery also loves to run varsity cross country and track for her high school. She plans to continue running and working with children throughout her professional life. She enjoys inspiring children to be passionate about their learning both inside and outside of the classroom.

Preethi Merugumala

Preethi is currently a senior at Mission San Jose High School. In school, I enjoy English and Math. I'm very interested in the applications of Computer Science in the field of Healthcare. It's been a blast working with the kids at Olive Children & Berkeley Academy thus far and I can't wait to make more memories with them

Anuradha Karpuram

is the 4-5th grade instructor. She completed Early Childhood Education coursework and received her GED in Zimbabwe. Her goal is to cultivate each child so that they will grow to be empowering individuals.

Jessica Lee

is the 6th Grade instructor. She is currently a student at MSJHS who shows all the potential of creating an academic and positive environment for her students to grow. She also excels academically while going beyond her responsibilities to support her students. Ms. Jessica loves to hang out with the kids and they love to hang out with her!

Andronic Constantin

is Berkeley's Math Olympiad and AMC 8/10 Instructor. Mr. Constantin has more than 30 years experience of teaching experience. He has an unparalleled ability to explain complicated mathematical concepts in an easily understandable manner. He is also encouraging and patient- able to provide individualized support for students struggling with learning mathematical concepts.

Jose Pelcastre

He is the confidence voice teacher, as he studied speech and communication ad a part of the Speech and Debate team at both James Logan High school and Ohlone College. He is especially interested in both teaching and music, often taking positions as a tutor or teacher in a variety of subjects, while also learning to create and share his own music.
